This is your opportunity to discuss your time at, and/or your connection with, Burford School... Write about your memories, ask and answer questions, trace old companions, find out what you always wondered about, suggest what TOBA might do next... The floor is entirely yours!
We have deliberately not started with lots of photographs and descriptions, because we do not wish to lead the conversation... We wish the direction to come entirely from you. So you're very welcome to add any and all photographs, documents etc to your posts to help make your points, and we will build galleries to illustrate how we all see our connections with Burford School and each other as the conversation develops.
To help keep things as easy to follow as possible, we have set out some 'categories', and invite your posts, and comments, exactly as you please. (And, of course, do let us know about anything that can be improved.)
And now, over to you... Do please log in and post and comment!
Thank you Richard.
At the risk of turning this into an historic coach blog, please forgive me for waxing lyrical about this vehicle. JNK was a Duple Northern Continental bodied, AEC Reliance, new to Heath & Frost Coaches of Leigh on Sea, Essex in June 1965. When new this would have been a high spec and luxurious long distance, high speed coach. I was always disappointed that by the time she arrived at Burford, someone, probably just like me, had liberated the AEC badge from the front grille!
Thanks to the combined efforts of the aforementioned Alun Bowen and Chris Hawker who had a passion for such things, JNK arrived at Burford in about 1978 from coach dealers EnsignBus in Thurrock. Looking at the dates, I think the school must have been it’s fourth owner?
On arrival, I clearly remember the Burford livery and blue stripes being applied by the art dept, the drivers seat being re- upholstered by the needlework team and the engine being re-built by the engineering/tech team. She was used for numerous outings, theatre visits, sports events and concerts etc. I can well remember going to London one afternoon to the BBC theatre in Shepherds Bush to see the recording, of all things, Jim’ll Fix It. Remember, this was when JS was everywhere!!
